That One Time in Hawaii...
Michael and I were quite fortunate when we booked our one way ticket out of the States. We found a flight that had a 24 hour lay over in Hawaii! It seems like ages ago now, but this made the trip to New Zealand ever so enjoyable and quite easy to adjust and not so much of a jet lag.
24 hours in Hawaii, first of all, what do you do, what do you see, what do you eat?! We were excited but clueless, so we just went with the flow. We stayed at a beautiful mansion on the island, it was a shared living space but, whatever it was GORGEOUS!
So when we stepped off the plane, picked up our rental car and post checking into our space we were hit with the whole lag. Lets get food and relax, this was all we wanted. We found an amazing burrito joint and enjoyed the sun. We took a cruise up the coast and watched the sunset. Then we just wanted to sleep. I don't think in our original thought process we factored in how exhausting travel is.
All in all, it was perfect. I just knew one thing was a must - watch a sunrise. In our one of a kind AirBnb stay we were able to watch the sun rise right from our bed. The whole wall was glass and I enjoyed the sunrise right from the comfort of our bed, I mean, come on, does it get any better?
As we started our day we went to one of the local coffee shops and enjoyed some coffee, grabbed a breakfast burrito at....Whole Foods, and then set to drive to the beach on this hot sunny day!
Our first step into the waters and we were amazed! Warm, blue and clear were the pacific waters here on the island. I don't think either of us were anticipating how nice it would be. We swam till the last minute, returned our car and just in time for boarding we were on our flight to New Zealand.
This was a special moment on our journey. I felt there was a place for sharing the experience. Michael and I will never forget this stop!
