Oh, Mercury.
It is so easy to miss home when it seems as if a situation could be the worse yet. However, also trusting that you are in the right place and everything is happening for a reason keeps you at bay. There has been mountains of beautiful events that have happened since my last post, but lets focus on now.
Michael and I have left Fairfield house in Nelson to continue our adventure around the South Island. Amazing would be an understatement for the views, moments and people we have crossed paths with along the way. We started our journey south heading towards Nelson Lakes, a National park about an hour our from Nelson city central.
The freedom of having our van self contained has led us to camp in many majestic spaces. It also has led us to camp in the complete opposite as well. After sitting, sleeping and living comfortable for 3 months, going back to the van life was an adjustment. Having one burner to cook our meals, having to convert our couch to a bed daily, and just the lack of organization that goes into the van life is quite the contradiction when you see these glorious photos and lifestyle photos via the internet. With that being said, it is SO worth the experience.
Most of the time has flown by, and it’s amazing to see how much has blossomed and changed throughout the seasons. The month of March was no exception, however times have been trying. Yes, there are views, laughs and moments that will stay within my heart for a lifetime - but there is also the possibility of a van breaking down as well. Yes, this happened. #Truelife.
I now, chuckle and also feel my gut turn over thinking of the events that past, but also I embrace the challenge that we have overcome.
The south island has been gorgeous with dramatic landscape and fresh scenery. As we traveled from Christchurch through Arthurs Pass, down the west coast we were greeted by endless clouds and rain. We decided to trudge through and make the drive to Wanaka. To our surprise, as we were in the Haast Pass, heading up an include - good ol’ Hubert decides to stall - and not turn over.
This made for a long period of communication errors, electrical failure of the van and many other surprises of struggle. I say Mercury is to blame.
Although it was quite the uphill battle, the moments in between were special, and i shall indulge in sharing the beautiful times instead.
xoxo
